Doctors at TUTH to turn away new OPD patients from today

KATHMANDU, Sept 1: Faculty doctors at the Institute of Medicine (IoM) said that they will not be able to see new patients at Out-patient Department (OPD) of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) from Wednesday. The decision of the faculty doctors comes right after the resident doctors shun their services in support of Dr Govinda KC's cause.

"Due to work load, we cannot serve new patients at OPD from Wednesday," said Dr Ramesh Acharya, chairman of the Faculty Doctors Association at the IoM.Acharya, however, said that the faculty doctors will provide treatment to the patients who come for follow-up services.

Resident doctors at the IoM have been avoiding services from Monday to exert pressure on the concerned authorities to heed the demands put forth by Dr Govinda KC. Authorities at the TUTH had decided to postpone scheduled surgeries from Tuesday after the resident doctors refused to look after new patients from Monday. The hospital administration has also cut the quota of the patients at the OPD by half from Tuesday.

Hundreds of patients are in queue since months for surgery at the TUTH. Patients from across the country flock to the TUTH for quality care at affordable prices.

Resident doctors, though, have been serving the patients in emergency cases and at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
