UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal of CPN-UML and Acting President of Nepali Congress (NC) Ram Chandra Paudel at a meeting on Sunday took the decision to this effect.[break]
The five-member taskforce led by lawmaker Laxman Lal Karna entrusted with the responsibility of sorting out issues related to state restructuring and other contentious issues, will submit its report to the subcommittee at the meeting.
Though Karna-headed taskforce was given a week-long deadline, it couldn´t submit its report to the leaders, as the subcommittee couldn´t even hold a meeting since June 14.
The Dahal-headed subcommittee held only two sittings after the Constituent Assembly (CA) term extension on May 28 although they had agreed to expedite the tasks of dispute resolution and present a progress report to the Constitutional Committee (CC) every ten days.
In the five-point agreement reached among the major political parties on May 28, the leaders expressed commitment to prepare the integrated draft of the new constitution by August 31. But they have failed to make any progress toward expediting the statute drafting process due to intra-party conflicts and growing mistrust among the parties. Last week Maoist leader Dev Gurung termed the Dahal-headed subcommittee as an illegitimate body.
Former Prime Minister Nepal, NC leader Paudel, Karna and Kalpana Rana of CPN (Samyukta) are members of the subcommittee.
