KATHMANDU, May 16: The key ministers and government bodies inside Singha Durbar premises including the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), which were compelled to carry out their work under open skies following severe damage to their office buildings by the recent earthquakes, are being relocated to the buildings of various other ministries for now. They will be back in operation from next week.

The government has decided to relocate the PMO to the building of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD) while the latter is going to be shifted to the building of the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction ."As the building housing at Singha Durbar we have decided to shift the PMO to that building and the ministry currently occupying it to the building of another ministry," informed Shanta Raj Subedi, secretary at the PMO.

Officials of the PMO, the National Planning Commission and the Defence Ministry have taken refuge in open spaces at Singha Durbar premises and have been carrying out their official work from those spaces since Tuesday when the earthquake damaged the main structure at Singha Durbar.

The Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction is being accommodated in the building of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs while the office of the Law Commission housed in the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction building is being relocated to the Birendra International Conference Center (BICC) at New Baneshwor for now.

"The key ministries and government bodies displaced by earthquake will be relocated. They have not been able to carry out their work properly in this time of crisis," said Secretary Subedi.

Similarly, the government has also decided to shift the office of the National Planning Commission to the building of the Administrative Court, relocating the Department of Printing to the nearby Ministry of Information and Communications.

Likewise, the government has decided to relocate another displaced ministry, the Ministry of Youths and Sports, to the building of the Water and Energy Commission secretariat. After the Sports Ministry building was destroyed by the April 25 earthquake, the ministry has been operating from a makeshift camp inside Singha Durbar premises.

The Ministry of Labor and Employment will now share office space with the Ministry of Culture and Civil Aviation as the former's office building was also destroyed by earthquake. Like the PMO, the ministry is also operating under open skies. The Defence Ministry is being relocated to the building of the National Security Council office.

As with the office of the Law Commission, the office of Committee on Clearing Unsettled Accounts is being shifted to the office of the Auditor's General at Babarmahal.
