BABIYACHAUR, Myagdi, Sept 27: Dhumba lake situated on the base of the Nilgiri mountain and which is important from the religious and tourism point of view is in a state of neglect due to lack of publicity. [break]

The lake is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,000 metres from the sea level and it is beautiful and attractive. It lies in Jomsom Village Development Committee of Mustang district

Although the lake could be a prime tourism destination, it has not been publicized. Similarly there is lack of trekking route and other infrastructures like well-managed lodges on the way leading to the lake.

The lake is spread over an area of 1,000 square metres. It is believed to be up to 100 metres deep.

Locals believe that one´s wishes are fulfilled if people offer prayers to the lake.

Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP)´s district office says it has a plan to develop the Dhumba lake into a prime tourism destination in the district.
