Earlier, the government had released a budget of Rs 30.82 million through the DEO to build and develop infrastructures of community schools in the district. They had aimed to spend Rs 3.4 million for construction of seven school buildings with four rooms, eight buildings with two rooms, 59 toilets and repair of old buildings by July. However, the DEO said the target remains unmet.Schools have not built buildings, toilets and repaired damaged structures. Similarly, teachers' attendance has been very low. Meanwhile, schools have been demanding for an increase in quota for teachers.
Some of these schools had earlier claimed that they had completed construction of their buildings. During monitoring by the DEO, however, it was found that most of the schools had yet to begin construction of school buildings.
After monitoring, the DEO has completely stopped releasing money to these schools. Hence, the school teachers have been paid salaries for the last four months.
Likewise, 15 community schools are set to be merged, while the license of 10 other schools got scrapped. Also, five more schools have been demoted, informed Bishnu Prashad Gotame, chief of DEO, Dailekh.
Although construction of school buildings was supposed to be completed in Santalla, Kasikandh, Bairi Kalikathum VDCs and Narayantar Municipality, they have crossed the July deadline.
According to Gotame, the schools failed to meet the deadline as they invested money elsewhere. As a result, the DEO was prompted to take action against them.
"If those schools immediately start constructing buildings, improve teachers' attendance and run classes regularly, we will give them access to bank accounts," said Gotame.
