Hundreds of passengers have been stranded at Lamidanda, Thamkharka and Khani Danda airports due to flight disruption.[break]
“Passengers have been compelled to take refuge at the airport with the hope that weather conditions might improve,” said Yadav Sen Rai, in-charge of Khani Danda Airport. Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) and Tara Air have been operating flights on the Kathmandu-Khanidanda route.
“However, both airlines have not been operating any flights for last seven days due to foggy weather,” said Rai. Similarly, flights have been disrupted at Lamidanda Airport--the oldest in the district.
Local people are forced to seek alternative mode of transport to travel outside the district when flights are disrupted. “People in the Northern Khotang, Okhaldhunga and Bhojpur district are the most affected,” said Daman Rai, a local journalist.
