BIRGUNJ, Jan 1: UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chair Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Friday claimed that democracy in Nepal is in peril as foreign powers are “backing the national army”.

Urging all to be prepared for a new revolution, Dr Bhattarai pointed out the need for all parties to stand united. Bhattarai, who arrived here to inaugurate Janata Higher Secondary School, said there is a need to launch a fresh movement to topple the government.

Commenting on the government´s decision to nominate Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala for Nobel Peace Prize, he said it is a matter of pride to recommend someone from Nepal for the prize.

“But since the peace process involves both the government and the Maoists, it is not appropriate to show only one party as the one who deserves the prize,” he said.
