Date-expired drugs were found in the medical consignments sent by the DPHO to Pokharia Hospital, Langadi Health Post and sub-health posts at Basantapur and Sibrwa in the district. [break]
Antibiotic suspension Chloranphenicol sent to the local health post five days ago were date-expired. The medicine meant for children were in 60 ml bottles seen by Republica and these showed that their date for usage had expired six months ago.
As per information in the sticker on the bottles the medicine was meant to be used before February, 2012. “There must be some mistake in the DPHO sending date-expired drugs. We have now separated out these drugs from our stores,” said Dr Nabin Prasad Yadav of Pokhariya Hospital.
According to Sachchitananda Singh, acting DPHO chief, his office had of late dispatched drugs to over three dozens health posts in the district.
“I have come to know about the date-expired drugs. I will send a health officer to the health posts on Tuesday to take stock of the situation,” Singh said.
“However, I am in no position to describe how it happened before investigating the matter”, he added. Singh also informed that Public Health Officer Bhabanath Jha has been assigned to visit the health posts where the date-expired drugs have been dispatched.
