The festivals are being organized to promote places like temples, caves and lakes having religious, cultural and historical significance.[break]
Dang District Development Committee (DDC) alone is preparing to organize five such festivals in different parts of the district. Tourism Development Committee formed by DDC is the organizers of these festivals. The committee has already organized ´Rihar Festival´ to promote pilgrimage tourism at the Bagarbaba temple area.
Similarly, Tulsipur Chamber of Commerce and Industries is organizing 10-day ´2nd Mid-western Festival´ in Tulsipur. The festival will start on Jan 28. The organizers are distributing 500,000 invitation cards in different cities and villages in Rapti zone to make the festival a grand success.
Managements committees of Manthoria Tharu temple of Narayanpur and Dharapani temple are also organizing festivals for the promotion of pilgrimage tourism. Promotional festivals would also be held in Syangja, Srigaun and Tulsipur.
“We have been providing financial assistance to programs organized at the local level,” said Govinda Acharya, member secretary of Tourism Development Committee. He told Republica that the DDC has allocated Rs 500,000 for organizing promotional festivals.
Dang DDC has allocated Rs 10 million for the promotion of NTY.
Meanwhile, Kanchanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) is organizing Kanchanpur Festival in the far-western trading hub of Mahendranagar from Feb 14-23 for the promotion of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
“The festival is being organized to publicize tourist destinations in the district and promote local products, culture and tradition,” said Jung Bahadur Malla, general secretary of KCCI.
The festival will have a total of 150 stalls. Similarly, cultural program, circus, and children amusement park will be the other attractions of the festival.
The organizers are expecting a footfall of 150,000 and transaction worth Rs 20 million.
