KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Nepal Army is set to hold a two-day (September 22-23) seminar on "Developing Civil-Military Relations in Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal," and has extended invitation to academicians, experts and representatives of various political parties, including the UCPN-Maoist, foreign military attaches, civil society members and others. It expects to host some 60 participants in the seminar.

However, according to the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR) of NA , Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has opted out of the seminar stating that the Maoists will not participate in functions to be attended by other political parties as part of their ongoing protest.

The seminar is the first in the series of initiative to be taken under the NA´s new chief Chhatraman Singh Gurung´s policy directive in the area of civil-military relation. He had announced after his takeover that enhancing the civil-military relation will be a "priority area" under his leadership.
