DHARAN, Feb 9: In order to make the city cycle-friendly, the youths of Dharan have come up with a new campaign entitled "One home, one cycle."

The youths, who are themselves cycling enthusiasts, have urged people to keep at least one cycle at home and make the place environment-friendly.

The young cyclists made such announcements during the first anniversary of Tusk Mountain Bike showroom.

One of the cycling campaigners Krishna KC said that using cycles is beneficial to health, saves fuel and helps in improving the environment by reducing traffic jams. KC, who is also the manager of Tusk Mountain Bike showroom, said that his shop would import attractive cycles to draw the attention of youth and children.

“Cycling is not only good for health but also a form of sports and many competitions will be held in future to encourage youths to cycle,” said he.

Every three months, awareness programs will be held in rural areas and people will be persuaded to use cycles to go to religious and heritage sites, said KC. He added that they will promote a campaign 'cycle for health' to promote rural tourism with active participation of youths.

Speaking at the annual program, famous cyclist Pushkar Shah said that if one anyone rides for a day, it is equivalent to planting eight trees.

“Cycling for a day is equal to planting eight trees as eight trees are needed to consume the carbon emitted from one liter petrol,” he explained, adding,
“Riding cycle is also economical.”

Five regular cycle riders from various age groups were also awarded during the occasion.
