Customs chiefs vow to ensure objectivity in customs valuation

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The national workshop of customs chiefs concluded on Monday, issuing a five-point declaration. In the declaration titled ´Service with Good Behavior, Support for Trade Facilitation´, the customs chiefs have made various commitments including maintaining objectivity in customs valuation of imported goods.



Entry of human resources in revenue sector on the basis of expertise, adherence to rules in transfer of employees, development of skills and positive thinking among revenue employees, enhancement of coordination among concerned bodies, and introduction of effective internal control system have also been included in the declaration. In the declaration, the customs chiefs have also expressed commitment to effectively implement the online operation and monitoring system in customs point across the country.



Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala urged customs official to maintain uniformity in valuation of imported goods. “You should be active in your respective working areas. I am ready to extend all possible logistic support to you,” added Koirala. Finance Secretary Shanta Raj Subedi expressed dissatisfaction over weak monitoring system in customs offices.
