According lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari, UML lawmakers suggested that an alternative government acceptable to both the Maoists and the Nepali Congress (NC) should be worked out.
The meeting also weighted different alternative governments to address the contentious issues related to the peace process.
The first option discussed at the meeting related to striking an agreement on key issues of the peace process and moving ahead.
Second option was about allowing NC to form a government that would remain in power until the Maoists make progress in the peace process. Under this option, the Maoists should be allowed to lead the government after tangible progress is made in the peace process.
The third option proposed allowing the current caretaker government to remain in power for one more month to further the peace process and then hand over power to a Maoist-led government.
According to another lawmaker Agni Kharel, majority of the lawmakers were of the view that the CPN-UML should not accept the Maoist-led government until credible and irreversible progress is made in the peace process.
