"The three parties alone cannot find an acceptable-to-all solution to the present stalemate," said CPN-Maoist Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal of the reasons for calling the roundtable, adding, "The assembly will find a common solution to the present political and constitutional crisis." [break]
Besides top leaders of the parties represented in the dissolved Constituent Assembly, the assembly to be held in Lalitpur will see the participation of top party leaders and representatives of different caucuses that existed in the erstwhile Constituent Assembly, according to Bhusal.
The CPN-Maoist, which split from the UCPN(Maoist), has been batting for a roundtable conference of all political parties, civil society and the new forces as a means to end the political deadlock. The assembly has been called as per a decision taken by the party´s national gathering last month after concluding that only a roundtable, not CA revival or fresh CA elections, is the solution to the deadlock resulting from the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly without drafting a new constitution.
In the meantime, the CPN-Maoist has formed an alliance with 12 fringe left parties to launch a nationwide awareness campaign from August 14 till September 1 for finding a solution to the political stalemate.
Announcing the alliance, named the third front, on Friday, CPN-Maoist Vice-chairman CP Gajurel, who is also coordinator of the alliance, said the alliance was necessary because the front of the Nepali Congress and the CPN(UML) had failed.
"The UCPN (Maoist) formed the Baluwatar front [meaning a front of ruling parties] and the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML formed their front, for the sake of power. Both fronts have failed [to yield a solution to the present deadlock]," said Gajurel at a press conference organized to announce the alliance.
"This is a third front and the [next] government should also be formed under the leadership of this revolutionary front," said Gajurel.
It may be recalled that Gajurel had also led an alliance of the same parties -- named United National People´s Movement Committee -- before the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly, to exert pressure on the parties to draft a new constitution by May 27.
The new Maoist party has formed the alliance a day after the ruling 21 parties led by UCPN (Maoist) announced an alliance of pro-federalism forces to forward the cause of identity-based federalism.
