KATHMANDU, Jan 22: The Supreme Court on Sunday ordered Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation Wakil Musalman to appear before the court within seven days for violating the court´s order while sacking Juddha Gurung from the post of member secretary of the Nepal Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC).

A single bench of Justice Prakash Wasti summoned the minister on the charge of contempt of court after he sacked Gurung despite a court order against doing so until the case is finalized by the apex court. [break]

This is the second instance of the apex court summoning a sitting minister on the charge of contempt of court. During the King´s direct rule in 2005, the apex court had issued a similar order to then Minister for Information and Communications Tanka Dhakal for barring FM radio stations from broadcasting news.

Minister Musalman had sacked Gurung for the second time on January 16 violating the court´s November 2011 order. Musalman had first sacked Gurung from member-secretary in November but the court had stayed the sacking.
