Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Bal Bahadur Raut, in-charge of the Sukaura police post, committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple at around 5:00 am apparently with his own gun. [break]
He was found dead on the spot when other police personnel and locals gathered after hearing a gun shot early in the morning, Dhak Bahadur Raut, a local, said quoting police.
A police team led by DSP Narendra Uprety from the District Police Office has left for the incident site to investigate the case.
The incident site lies some 26 kilometers from the district headquarters, Gaihat.
The deceased police officer, originally from Necha, Solukhumbu and currently staying in Sunsari, had been working as chief of the police post since the last four months.
A police officer said ASI Raut could have committed suicide out of mental stress or imbalance.
