Cooperate to prepare integration norms, procedures: PM to NA, PLA

KATHMANDU, March 23: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Friday asked the Nepal Army (NA) and representatives of the People´s Liberation Army (PLA) to cooperate with the Special Committee secretariat for finalization of the norms and procedure for integration of former Maoist combatants into the proposed NA directorate.



The prime minister gave such instructions at a meeting attended by NA Chief Chhatraman Singh Gurung, Chief Secretary Madhav Prasad Ghimire, PLA deputy-commander Chandra Prakash Khanal and coordinator of the Special Committee secretariat Balananda Sharma.[break]



The prime minister at the meeting also instructed the Special Committee secretariat to prepare an action plan on army integration in the next five days as per the spirit of the seven-point deal.



“The prime minister has instructed the secretariat to prepare work procedures in consultation with the concerned state organs,” said a statement issued by the prime minister´s office. “Immediately after the prime minister´s instruction, the secretariat has expedited its work.”



The prime minister convened the meeting a day after a meeting of the Special Committee on Thursday directed its secretariat to finalize standard norms and procedures to be adopted in advancing the integration process.
