HETAUDA, Feb 3: The closed session of ruling UCPN (Maoist) ´s seventh general convention has finally begun at the textile industry hall in Hetauda, on Sunday evening.

Earlier, the party had informed that closed session was delayed due to ‘technical reasons’. However, it has been learnt that the meeting was failed to take place due to disputes over nomination of representatives and not having identity cards for them.
Due to the delay, the representatives were left in confusion and had to while away their times by eating peanuts and oranges.
Early in the morning, a meeting the general convention organizing committee had agreed on the names of the five percent representatives to be nominated by the parties.
According to party spokesperson Agni Sapkota, a 15-member presidium, including Dinanath Sharma and Hisila Yami, headed by Krishna Bahadur Mahara was formed to oversee the closed door session.
As many as 3,500 cadres, including volunteers, are participating in the closed session that will hold deliberation on party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s political document, the endorsement of which will see the party formally embark on multiparty democratic system.
Sapkota informed that the representatives will be divided into several groups, each group comprising 50 members. Each day the closed session will be held from 8 am to 12 noon and again from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Likewise, there will be press meets at 1 pm and then 5 pm every day. The five-day convention, taking place for the first time in 21 years, began Saturday and will conclude on Wednesday.
