KATHMANDU, April 21: In a move to encourage honesty, the outgoing Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha on Thursday assured Anuja Baniya, the girl who returned a lost bag with Rs 9.1 million cash and a diamond necklace to its owner, of helping her with education and career as and when she needs.

“I was very much impressed by her honesty. She is a rare example in our society,” Shrestha said, adding, “I also assured her of full support so that she can continue her education without any problem and even help her with career. I have asked her to meet me if she ever needs support.”[break]

Originally from Jhulke of Bhojpur district, Baniya, 22, returned an unclaimed bag she found inside a bus while traveling to Dharan on April 9 to its owner.

She found the owner´s contact number inside the documents kept inside the bag and called the owner, Purushottam Poudel of Kathmandu. Poudel got back his lost bag on April 12.

Paudel, who was heading to his daughter´s house in Dharan-9, had left the bag inside the bus. Poudel offered Baniya Rs 200,000 cash as a prize as gratitude but she declined saying that returning the bag to its rightful owner was her responsibility.

On Wednesday, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav had congratulated her over the telephone.
