Stating that the CJ-led government would not invite any disaster, Dahal said, “We decided to hand over the government leadership to the chief justice as we had no other option,” said Dahal talking to media persons in Pokhara. [break]He also argued that they decided to form CJ led government after failing to come up with a solution to the deadlock for the past nine months.
Arguing that formation of a government led by sitting chief justice would not violate the principle of separation of powers, Dahal also rubbished arguments that such a government would undermine the independence of the judiciary. He said such resistance would not affect the process to form a chief justice-led government.
“At this critical juncture, we must understand that it is more important to come up with a solution to the ongoing deadlock than to make fuss about rules and regulations,” said Dahal, adding that the law should be guided by politics.
"The Supreme Court will also issue a verdict commensurate with the need of this hour. The court is well aware of the crisis facing the country," said Dahal.
Dahal also expressed dissatisfied with the decision of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA). NBA on Tuesday had decided to oppose formation of a CJ -led election government.
He also claimed that preparations were on to ensure conduct of fresh polls by mid-June.
“We will try to hold election in mid-June. If we fail the election will be held in mid-November,” added Dahal.
Dahal also said that the chief justice has assured the political parties that he would lead the government and hold election in mid- June.
Countering allegations of the CPN-Maoist and other parties, Dahal said that the proposal to form a CJ-led government was not forced upon them by foreign forces. He, however, said that India and China have welcomed the decision of the four major political forces to form a CJ led government.
According to him, his party has proposed CJ led government only after consultation with the CJ and the prime minister.
