KATHMANDU, March 23: Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has sought clarification from former ambassador to Qatar Shyama Nanda Suman, who is the current advisor to the Foreign Minister, over charges of collecting funds illegally during his tenure in Qatar.
According to a CIAA statement issued on Monday, the anti-corruption body had taken the decision to seek the clarification from Suman on February 15.

Suman has been accused of collecting cash from individuals and organizations since May 26, 2001 in the name of supporting Nepalis stranded in Qatar. Suman had never informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the fund collection, its records were not kept and the amount was spent in unnecessary things, according to CIAA.
CIAA said Suman had started the tradition of collecting extra 50 Riyals from individuals while renewing their passports and he accepted voluntary donations from organizations, and the tradition continued till January 1, 2008.
