Chure Bhawar calls off 3-day strike

KATHMANDU, June 14: Chure Bhawar National Unity Party Nepal has called off its three-day nationwide strike starting Wednesday after the government agreed to talks.



"The three-day strike has been postponed for now," said Bhumi Raj Niraula, general secretary of the party, after talks with Minister at the Prime Minister´s Office Ghanashyam Bhusal Tuesday evening. [break]



He said the party would call another strike if its demands are not addressed within 15 days. "We are meeting the government every day for the next 15 days."



The party demands that the government not allow group entry of Madhesis in the army, amend the caste-based reservation policy and base reservations on the economic condition of people. The party sought assurances against federalism based on ethnic lines.
