Chitwan National Park commemorates zero poaching year

CHITWAN, May 3: The Chitwan National Park has succeeded to mark 2071 BS as zero poaching of one-horn rhino.

No rhinos were killed in a year time since May 3, 2014.


However, nine rhinos perished due to natural death. The Park also commemorated the 2011 as the zero-poaching-year earlier to this but two rhinos were killed in 2012-2014, said Chief Conservation officer Kamal Jung Kunwar.

The park administration has tightened security in view to controlling poaching of animals in the park area and has been organizing awareness programmes. The park administration has arrested 653 people on charge of attempted poaching.

The Park is home to 503 rhinos as per the census held in 2011.RSS
