Chitwan in focus at Ratnanagar Mahotsav

KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Ratnanagar Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) in association with Ratnanagar Municipality is organizing ´Ratnannagar Festival 2012´ in Chitwan from January 11 to 19. In focus is Chitwan´s economic possibilities, commercial agriculture, traditional and historical monuments.



The festival will be held in Tikaulichaur of Ratnanagar Municipality-7. According to Dipak Kumar Karmacharya, president of RCCI and also coordinator of the festival, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai will inaugurate the festival. [break]



“Almost 90 percent of the preparations have already been completed. The festival will have more than 400 stalls,” said Karmacharya.



According to the organizers, local art and culture, locally-produced handicrafts and electronic products will be exhibited at the stalls. Under the agriculture products, fish, banana, vegetable and fruits, dairy products, honey and poultry products will be promoted at the festival.



There will be a separate pavilion for real estate and housing companies.



The food festival themed on banana will have different items made from banana. The organizers will also hold competitions for agricultural products, web designing, bridal make-up, sports, painting and sculpture making, among others, to make the festival more entertaining.



The other highlights of the festival include cultural dance by ethnic groups, interaction program, workshops, children fair, elephant and boat riding, and sightseeing by helicopter.



Speaking at the press conference, Pradip Jung Pandey, Vice-president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), said the festival will not only help in the economic development of Chitwan but also in the development of the nation.



"It will help promote unique products of Chitwan,” said Pandey.



RCCI and Ratnanagar Municipality have been organizing the Ratnagar festival every two years since 2001 with government and private support. The entry fee for the fair has been fixed at Rs 30 while students will get a 50 percent discount on the entry fee.
