He further stated that the government was also planning to include tourism entrepreneurs in the management committee of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) to make the national flag carrier function in an effective way.[break]
“If the plan materialized, a representative from NATTA too will be the member of NAC management committee,” he added. He stressed on the need of promoting ´regional tourism product´ to foster regional partnership in tourism development and also lure more regional as well as international tourists.
Making a presentation at the convention, former president of Travel Agents Association of India, C B Prasad stressed on the importance of introducing ´secondary´ and ´tertiary´ tourism products in order to bring in tourists to visit same destination twice. The latest statistics show that nearly 40 percent of Indian tourists visiting Nepal come for a second visit.
NATTA president Arjun Prasad Sharma urged all the travel agents to work hand in hand with the government agencies to make Nepal Tourism Year 2011 a success. On the occasion, awards were handed over to 25 years old travel agencies. Journalists from Avenues Television and Kantipur Daily were also felicitated on the occasion for their contribution in promoting tourism.
