Acting on the SC verdict, the Judgment Execution Division of Kathmandu District Court (KDC) led by Punaram Khanal sent Chaturbedi to Central Jail. Chaturbedi had appeared before KDC on Wednesday morning. [break]
Chaturbedi has been granted 20 percent amnesty in the punishment as he himself appeared before the court. There is a legal provision of 20 percent amnesty on the punishment slapped if the convict shows up in court in person within 60 days of verdict pronouncement.
The SC had slapped a Rs 13.9 million fine and one and half years of imprisonment on Chaturbedi.
However, the Judgment Execution Division reduced the punishment for Chaturbedi by 20 percent to 11 months and six days in jail. Of the total fine slapped by the SC, KDC waived Rs 2.8 million to bring it down to Rs 11.1 million.
Interestingly, Chaturbedi paid the fine of Rs 11.1 million at KDC on Wednesday itself.
Some seven years ago, the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a graft case at the Special Court, claiming that Chaturbedi, who originally hailed from Sirsiya-3 of Parsa district, illicitly amassed property worth Rs 69.2 million.
The apex court had upheld a decision to convict Chaturbedi taken by a full bench of the Special Court comprising then chief judge Govinda Prasad Parajuli and members Rana Bahadur Bam and Bhupdhoj Adhikary.

Issuing a 139-page verdict, a division bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi and Justice Sushila Karki had slapped a Rs 13.9 million fine and one and half years imprisonment on Chaturbedi.
Additionally, the apex court had said that Rs 13.9 million should be recovered from Chaturbedi.
