The lawmakers at the parliament meeting on Friday criticized the authorities for not coming up with a concrete plan to address the security lapses.[break]
"I had expected that a minister would present government´s plan of action to ensure the people about maintaining law and order in the country but the government hasn´t done that," said Lawmaker Pradeep Gyawali of the ruling CPN-UML. "It shows that the government is taking the incident as a minor issue and this is very unfortunate."
Also, Agni Sapkota of UCPN (Maoist) and Pushpa Bhusal of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) demanded that the government appoint a home minister at the earliest to address the security issues. At present, the prime minister is looking after the home portfolio as well.
Urging the government to unveil its security plan, Sapkota said that failure to do so would cost dearly to the country. He said the attack came as a game plan to dampen Nepalis´ morale.
An Indian man entered with a firearm and shot Yunus Ansari, executive director of National Television on Friday inside the central jail. The 41-year-old Ansari is in jail on fake currency and drugs charges.
Jasjeet Singh, 42, a self-proclaimed contract killer from Lucknow, India, fired twice with his revolver at point blank range on meeting Ansari at the visitor´s lounge of the Central Jail.
