Central bank governor off to Dhaka

KATHMANDU, June 12: Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Chiranjibi Nepal left for Dhaka on Thursday to attend South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Finance Group meeting.


Finance Secretaries and Governors of SAARC member nations are attending the SFG meeting which is expected to foster mutual cooperation in financial sector among member countries.

Finance Secretary Suman Prasad Sharma, however, is not attending the meeting as the government has not allowed high-ranking officials to visit foreign countries in the post-quake situation, according to finance ministry officials.

A separate Governors' Symposium titled 'Financial Inclusion', which will focus on financial stability situation and efforts made on financial stability and future strategy will also be held during the program.

Likewise, Governor Nepal is also scheduled to attend the board meeting of Asian Clearing Union. Simplification and strengthening of clearing systems among member countries is one of the agendas of the meeting. Nine Asian countries are members of the Asian Clearing Union.

Governor Nepal will also discuss with his counterparts on the issues of rebuilding after the quake, according to Nepal Rastra Bank.
