According to CC Chairman Nilambar Acharya, the meeting was postponed to Sunday at 8:30 am after NC leader Ram Chandra Paudel, on behalf of the dispute resolution subcommittee and the major political parties, approached the meeting and asked for the deferral, stating that negations on resolving the disputed issues are still ongoing. NC leader Paudel, also a member in the Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led subcommittee, also informed the meeting that the leaders will report on the progress on resolving the disputes in Sunday’s CC meeting, Acharya said.
Laxmanlal Karn, a Sadbhawana Party leader, said lawmakers at today’s brief meeting raised their concerns over the overarching negotiations, causing their deadline commitments to fall short repeatedly.
According to Karna, also a CC subcommittee member, the lawmakers also expressed their objection regarding ‘informal’ understanding among the major political parties over the determination of the strength of federal parliament, among other issues.
“We had a formal discussion on informal agreements,” Karna said, referring to the recent agreements reached and proposals floated by parties on the system of governance and state restructuring, the two remaining key issues in the constitution drafting.
