KATHMANDU, March 14: The parliament´s Business Advisory Committee (BAC) Wednesday decided to give the Constitutional Committee (CC) of the Constituent Assembly 10 more days to resolve remaining disputes in the constitution writing even though a CC meeting on Tuesday had sought 15 days for the purpose.

The CC, which is entrusted with the responsibility of resolving disputes and preparing an integrated draft of the new constitution, was given a 10-day duration to accomplish the task. [break]

Though the deadline expired on Tuesday, the CC could resolve none of the remaining issues that include the task of determining the system of governance and settling the contentious issues in state restructuring.

"The BAC meeting decided to give only 10 more days to the CC for resolving the disputes because we have very limited time left to accomplish the task of constitution writing," Chandrika Prasad Yadav of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Republican) told Republica.

The CC has failed to settle the thorny issues as major political parties have taken an unyielding stand on their positions with regard to system of governance and federalism.
