KATHMANDU, March 9: Former US President Jimmy Carter has lauded the recent progress in the peace process and has urged Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and his party to seek compromise with other political parties to draft a democratic constitution by May 28.

"In particular, I am pleased to see that, despite challenges, the discharge of Maoist combatants who have chosen voluntary retirement has moved forward. This is a critical step towards completion of the peace process," Carter said in a letter to Prime Minister Bhattarai. [break]
