After the completion of the party´s general convention, Dahal along with Finance Minister Barshaman Pun, leader Post Bahadur Bogati and Agni Sapkota had visited the hospital. But no words of solace came from the Maoist leaders for Rokka.[break]
“I was hopeful that they would express serious concern over my condition and offer me support for medical treatment for all the sacrifices I made for the party but the leaders were only sympathetic. However, I am still hopeful that they would come to my rescue,” said Rokka.
Suffering from throat cancer and tuberculosis, Rocca, has been receiving treatment at the hospital for the last three months, but the Maoist leaders have shown no concern over his plight.
Rocca had joined the communists even before the launch of the peoples´ war. “When the Maoist leaders stayed in my house during the people´s war, I offered them all I could. Leader Mohan Baidhya, Ram Bahadur Thapa and even Baburam Bhattarai were regular guests in my house during the insurgency. But now they seem to have forgotten me,” said Rokka.
Rocca, who has three daughters, said he has spent all his savings for his treatment. His son-in-law, who has been working overseas, has been paying for his medical expenses. “But I know this won´t last long. I can´t afford the treatment any further,” said Rokka.
Rokka´s youngest daughter Unnati Rokka has been taking care of her father in the hospital all these months. “It seems poor people like us have to suffer all the time. I have been having nightmares as my father doesn´t have any money for his treatment. They money we had collected by selling our goats has already been spent,” said Unnati.
Dr Rajanbhakta Bhandari at the hospital shared that Rokka had suffered from malnutrition before contracting cancer. “He needs good nutrition when undergoing treatment,” said Bhandari.
