The Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) is holding Midas CAN Info-Tech 2013, the country’s biggest information communication technology (ICT) fair, from Thursday. On the eve of the six-day event, Republica caught up with CAN President Binod Dhakal to talk about the event. Excerpts: [break]

How is this edition of CAN Info-Tech going to be different from previous ones?

The ICT sector is undergoing rapid change because of latest innovations. Since the fair will showcase latest ICT products and services, visitors will definitely get a different taste this year than in previous years.

What are the major attractions of the event?

Visitors should take this event as an opportunity to navigate different ICT products and services under a single roof. I’m sure special discounts and lucrative offers are awaiting visitors. Palm-size projector, latest tablets, laptops, handsets, Midas eClass, information on Nepal Telecom’s recently launched WiMAX and EVDO technologies and mobile application Nlocate, which will also help visitors to locate the exact position of different stalls, are few highlights of the mega event. Another attraction is the ICT Conference scheduled for February 8 and 9.

What major accomplishments did the CAN Info-Tech make in the last 19 years?

Apart from providing a platform to exhibitors to promote their businesses, CAN Info-Tech has played a vital role in raising awareness about ICT in the country. People now wait for the event to arrive as they not only get to see latest gadgets but get good deals as well. In this regard, the event itself has emerged as a brand in itself.

Can we expect the event to be more organized than in previous years?

Making the event more organized is always our priority. If you compare events of past few years with those of previous ones, you will notice lots of positive changes have taken place. Over the years, we have added more volunteers, while online ticketing system has also helped us in managing the crowd. We always strive to provide better experience to visitors.
