However, Tanka Mani Sharma, joint secretary at MoF, said it was not possible to raise the allowances as demanded by the employees. “The demand that the employees have placed is very high and hence can´t be implemented,” he added.

MoF official said they had already agreed to provide allowance of up to 51 percent of salary amount.

The proposal to increase allowance was forwarded by CAAN to MoF through Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation. CAAN´s newly appointed director general Ananda Prasad Neupane, who is yet receive his appointment letter, said the CAAN management was waiting for employees to forge consensus and ensure smooth functioning of regular activities at CAAN. Neupane hasn´t been able to assume office due to the protest.

The employees have padlocked the main entrance of CAAN head office at Babarmahal and the offices of chiefs of all 37 domestic airports outside the Valley since Friday. Regular works at CAAN have been affected due to the protest.

CAAN employees used to draw 66 percent of the salary as allowance when they were transferred to CAAN from civil service, said Daman Rawal, president of CAAN chapter of Nepal National Employees´ Association.
