Director General of CAAN Triratna Manandhar said that maintenance of old aerodromes and construction of new airports will be started under this concept. [break]
Manandhar shared that such concept was forwarded as the private sector was not feeling ownership of the airports after the government hands in construction and management of the airports and also problems were also seen in management of such airports.
Manandhar said the CAAN was mulling this venture as the private airlines companies were reluctant to fly in the airports of remote districts but were charging exorbitant fares and focusing on business instead of service delivery.
The CAAN has expected to make the private airlines companies--that primarily focus on profit-making only by running services in the relatively busy airports by not flying in the airports of remote districts--disciplined and systematic.
The Director General of CAAN said this model will be implemented as an experiment to resume services in the airports that were shutdown in the past.
Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation is mulling to run Mahendranagar Airport, Tikapur Airport of Kailali, Gokuleshwor Airport of Baitadi and Kamal Bazaar Airport of Achham.
Similarly, the Ministry has forwarded the tasks to construct new airports in Dharan of Sunsari.
The CAAN is also thinking whether or not the same model was applicable to run the Balewa Airport of Baglung.
Likewise, the CAAN is planning to construct a new airport to provide services to the mountaineers who aspire to scale Mt. Manaslu in northern Gorkha.
