BIRATNAGAR, May 13: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar said on Sunday that the Constitution Assembly (CA) term should be extended if a “complete constitution” is to be promulgated.

Talking to media persons at the Biratnagar airport, DPM Gachchhadar said, “A draft of the new constitution either based on consensus or majority will be promulgated by May 27. On that basis, CA term can be extended.” [break]

He also opined that some of the disputed issues could be resolved during the extended term.

He also claimed that the new constitution would address the rights of all ethnic communities and linguistic groups.

Exercise restraint: Gachchhadar to security chiefs

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar has directed the security agencies not to interfere the ongoing protests staged by various groups across the country.

Speaking at a meeting organized at District Administration Office, Morang on Sunday Gachchhadar urged security personnel to “exercise restraint” during the protest programs to avoid any untoward incident.

“Various groups have been organizing protest programs to ensure their rights. Police should exercise restraint,” said a source quoting Gachchhadar.

Regional Administrator Dr Krishna Poudel and DIG Surendra Bahadur Shah of the eastern region had briefed DPM Gachchhadar on the security situation in the region. Chief District Officers and security chiefs of Morang and Sunsari were present at the meeting.
