CA panel vote for two mechanisms for appointment of justices

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: The Constituent Assembly (CA) Committee on Determining Judicial System voted on Wednesday in favor of a provision for having two separate mechanisms to appoint justices at Supreme Court and state-level courts.



The Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) backed up the proposal for having two separate mechanisms while Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have backed up the proposal for having a single central mechanism for appointment of all justices.



The Maoist-backed proposal received 24 votes while the other proposal got 18. Committee chairman Prabhu Sah did not have to vote.
