KATHMANDU, March 26: UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Agni Sapkota said that fresh Constituent Assembly (CA) elections will be conducted despite obstructions from the CPN-Maoist (CPN-M).

Speaking at an interaction program in the capital on Tuesday, Sapkota claimed that the election is possible within 40-50 days. "People will retaliate to those who try to disrupt the election," he added, "Those who oppose election will be ultimately finished."[break]

He informed that the parties will discuss strategies for upcoming CA elections in next all-party meeting.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat said that his party is in favor of elections in mid-June. He also claimed that people have been fed up with the Maoist government and want to get rid of them.

However, Madhesi People´s Right Forum Chairman Upendra Yadav said that the present government formed under the four-party ´syndicate´ cannot conduct fresh elections.

"The election is not possible unless agreement among the four parties is corrected. Even the former king conducted election earlier. It was rejected by the people then," Yadav added.
