Inaugurating the first national general convention of Nepal-India Dalit Friendship Association and the National Dalit Conference on Sunday, CA Chair Nembang said the parties are currently working actively to conclude the peace process and complete the new Constitution.[break]
Stating that the Dalit community too has made a notable contribution to the peace and constitution making process, Mr Nembang emphasized on the need for the Dalit community to become alert and active in ensuring that the new Constitution is Dalit-friendly.
On the occasion, Mr Nembang gave away the "Bhagat Sarbajit Biswakarma International Prize´ to Speaker of India´s Lower House of Parliament, Meira Kumar, "Bhagat Sarbajit Biswakarma National Prize´ to Dalit leader Padma Singh Biswakarma and the ´TR Biswakarma National Prize´ to former Chairman of National Assembly, Ram Prit Paswan.
Likewise, former MP Man Bahadur Biswakarma, CA member Shambhu Hajara Dusad Paswan, Mithaidevi Biswakarma, Dr Bidhyanath Koirala and others were also felicitated with the Nepal-India Dalit Friendship Prize.
At the program, President of Indian Society Development Academy, Babasaheb Jagada, President of the Association, Om Prakash Ramdam, President of National Dalit Commission, Bijul Kumar Biswakarma, CA members Shambhu Hajara Dusad Paswan, Durga Pariyar, Puran Singh Dayal and other speaker emphasized on the need for the Dalit community to stand for their own liberation.
Dalit leaders and activists from Nepal and India, social workers, intellectuals and others are taking part in the two-day conference.
The Association was founded in 2060 B.S. for establishing Dalit rights and for the liberation of the Dalit community, at the joint initiative of Dalit leaders and activists of Nepal and India.
