Former Prime Minister Thapa was quick to add that there must be a package deal on the contents of new constitution beforehand and the CA should be revived only for some days required to endorse the draft from the 601-member body.[break]
"The parties must ink a deal on the contents of the new constitution and then decide how much time will be required for endorsing the constitution bill from the reinstated House," Thapa told a group of journalists at his party office at Sanogaucharan on Friday. "It should automatically be dissolved within days after promulgating the new constitution."
He was for holding fresh elections if the parties fail to settle unresolved disputes soon through consensus.
Stating that there was no serious controversy over the issue of adopting republican system in the country, he said a lot of politics have been involved in federalism. He was of the view that the issue of federalism was also dividing political forces with serious implications.
Many-time prime minister Thapa came down heavily on the leaders of UCPN (Maoist) and other ruling parties for trying to create unnecessary divisions among the political forces over federalism.
"The way the ruling Maoists and other leaders have been claiming themselves as federalists and other parties including Nepali Congress and CPN-UML as anti-federalists is purely baseless, imaginary and a lie," said Thapa. "Leaders from major political parties shouldn´t indulge themselves in such baseless allegations."
He was referring to the alliance of ´federalists´ led by UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who claimed that some political parties including NC and UML were acting as stumbling block allegedly by not becoming ready to accept the agenda for changes.
