KATHMANDU, March 27: The Rupandehi district administration has clamped an indefinite curfew in Butwal municipal area since 9 a.m., police control in the capital said.
A police official told myrepublica.com that the district administration had to impose the sudden curfew as the situation was getting out of control.
Following murder of a Youth Force cadre Thursday night, Butwal has remained tense since early morning Friday. Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) cadres have taken to the street, burning tires and blocking all vehicular movement in the town as protest against murder of their youth wing leader Prachanda Thaiba.
Traffic movements in all the highways linking Butwal are deserted because of the protest. Thaiba, 35, was shot dead by a group of assailants chasing him in a motorcycle when he was returning home in his motorcycle at around 11 pm. Thaiba breathed his last at Butwal hospital. Out of three bullets shot at him, one pierced his chest, according to police.
