Mukesh Dangol, Chief of the Civil Aviation Department under the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, confirmed that preparations are underway to present the proposal to the cabinet. “The investigator has requested an extension due to time constraints. We are preparing to take the proposal to the cabinet,” he said, adding that the duration of the extension will be determined by the Council of Ministers.

The ATR-72 aircraft overran the runway at Bhadrapur Airport on the night of January 2 and came to a halt approximately 150 metres into a nearby riverbed. The aircraft was carrying 55 passengers, including four crew members. No fatalities were reported.

The cabinet had appointed Senior Captain Puri to head the investigation at its January 5 meeting, granting him 45 days to complete the inquiry and submit a report.
