BRIEF NEWS: Man held with contraband drugs

KATHMANDU, Nov 28: Police recently arrested one Guddu Singh, 35, of Birgunj, in possession of huge amount of prohibited hard drugs.



Singh was arrested allegedly in possession of 2,100 ampuls of Buprinfrin and 2,000 ampuls of daizepam. A squad from the Narcotic Drug Control Law Enforcement Unit (NDCLEU), had raided a truck (Na 1 Kha 9326) at Balkhu and recovered the contraband last Thursday. [break]He was made public in Kathmandu on Sunday.



According to NDCLEU, Guddu has been known as the leader of a ring supplying contrabands to different cities using trucks that carry commodities. The seized drugs are worth Rs 1.3 million.

Timber smugglers arrested



JANAKPUR
: Police arrested nine smugglers who were taking away timber worth Rs 4 million from Raghunathpur Saturday night.



The individuals, who are residents of eastern Dhanusha district had felled trees at the Gainchi forest and were taking away the timber on three tractors and nine carts.



Two held with drugs

SIRAHA: Police arrested two persons in possession of illegal drugs at Katarichowk along the Katari-Mirchaiya road section Sunday morning.



Those arrested have been identified as 22-year-old Ram Pujan Das of Kusaha Lachminiya-2 and 27-year-old Mohammed Gulzar of Asopu Balkaba.


Two killed as jeep turns turtle



DANG: Two women died and six others injured after a jeep en-route from a village in Dang to Tulsipur met with an accident Sunday evening. The jeep (Ra 1 Ja 351) overturned at Amuwa, Baghmare-2, killing Chandrakala Rokka of Baghmare-9 and Mankali BC of Bijauri-3.



Maoist diktat to farmers



BARDIYA: In a bid to extort donation, UCPN (Maoist) affiliated peasant´s organization on Sunday issued a diktat to the local farmers here asking them not to sell their paddy grains at places chosen by them. Landlords said they were unable to collect their crops from the field owing to the diktat.



Last year, the landlords had given donations to the organization. The diktat was issued after they refused to do so this year. Maoist district in-charge Tilak Sharma denied asking donations and said the party has only asked the landlords to give two thirds of the total crop to the tillers.



Area Administration Office Chief Arjun Subedi vowed to provide security to the landlords if that was the real situation.
