It was Dangol´s second consecutive victory over Khadka in the final. With the win, Dangol bagged a purse of $ 800 while Khadka received $ 500. Rajiv Maharjan of Lalitpur finished third. He received $ 300.[break]
In the first edition held in the capital on April 17 last year also, Dangol had defeated Khadka in the final and won cash prize of $ 500.
Altogether 14 ITF black belt players above 18 years were selected from across the country to compete in the 57-63 kg category.
Xavier set up title with NASA
KATHMANDU: Xavier Int´l set up the title clash with NASA in girls´ section on Saturday in the 12th Don Bosco Cup Inter-college Basket Tournament. Xavier hammered Himalayan Whitehouse 27-5 in the second semifinal of the tournament.
Sima Karki scored 11 points for triumphant side. [break]On Friday, NASA had defeated hosts Don Bosco 44-6 in the first semifinal. In boys´ category, National and VS Niketan secured a place in the last four. National saw off Morgan 54-36 riding on 19 points of Kewal Sunwar. VS Niketan beat Pyramid 54-44. Nischal Tandukar netted 19 points for VS NIketan.
TIA, Gyan Niketan in final
KATHMANDU: Defending champions TIA and Gyan Niketan entered into senior boys final on Saturday in the Neric Fifth Kwiks Greenland Inter-school Basketball Tournament winning their respective matches. TIA beat hosts Greenland 42-36. Nishan Chhantyal and Ashis Shahi scored 15 points each for the winning side. In another match, Gyan Niketan saw off HHCA 48-34 riding on 15 points of Bhim Limbu. Valley Public and Neric made it to the final of junior boys´ section. Valley Public had a hard fought 17-16 win over HHCA. Sumit Rai and Bishal Limbu contributed six points apiece for the winning side. Neric eased past Awareness International Academy (AIA) 22-13. Binod Bhandari scored 10 points for Neric.
Shwyambhu clinch title
KATHMANDU: Shwyambhu Dojo clinched the title of Sixth Valley-wide Gojurio Karate Tournament on Saturday with seven gold, five silver and six bronze medals. Aakashdip Dojo finished second with five gold and silver each and three bronze medals coming ahead of Bhaktapur Dojo which won three gold, silver and bronze medals each. The event was organized by Mount Chandragiri Dojo branch of Nepal Gojurio Karate Do Association.
Bijeshowari into final
KATHMANDU: Bijeshowari School has reached the final of the Second New Diamond Valley-wide Inter School Volleyball Tournament on Saturday defeating Gyan Sudha School 25-20, 25-19, 25-14. Similarly, Annal Jyoti defeated Adarsha Saula 26-24, 25-19, 5-14 while New Diamond beat khusi English School 25-10, 25-6 and 25-10.
Rara Hill claim two titles
KATHMANDU: Rara Hill Academy claimed the title for the Sixth RAA Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament in both girls´ and boys´ category on Saturday. In boys´ title decider, Rara defeated Panga 57-49 while in girls´ category defeated Panga 37-12. Sajb Maharjan and Bhumika Maharjan were adjudged Most Valuable Player of the tournament in the boys´ and girls´ category respectively.
Saipal, NOBS victorious
KATHMANDU: Saipal and NOBS School opened the first junior boy´s and staff basketball tournament on a winning note on Saturday. In the opening match of staff category, Saipal thrashed Teresa School 64-45 as Laxman Gurung netted 23 points. In the next game NOBS beat host Ideal English 34-30.
Nepali maintains lead
HETAUDA: Nepal champion Badri Lal Nepali has maintained the lead till the fourth day of the Hetauda Invitational FIDE Rating Chess Tournament with six points after the completion of the sixth and seventh rounds on Saturday. He played a draw with former Nepal champion CM Keshav Shrestha in the sixth round and defeated Bikash Kuluju in the seventh to register an overall five wins and two draws. Niraj Niraula and Rabindra Shakya are jointly second with 5.5 points. Trailing behind at third are Kuluju, Shrestha, Rijendra Rajbhandari, Uttam Raj Thapa and Surbir Lama with five points each. Among the unrated players, Nabin Kumar Shrestha, Sundar Kark and Bikash Lama have gathered four points each.
Timisina calls for dialogue
KATHMANDU: Following the change in the government, National Sports Council (NSC) has called the protestors, who have padlocked sports body all across the country, for dialogues, states a press release issued by NSC Vice president Pitamber Timisina on Thursday. Timisina has asked all the protestors to sit for talks as soon as possible. He said the padlocking of NSC and districts sports bodies have crippled sports activities throughout the country.
