MAHENDRANAGAR, March 27: Standing Committee member of the CPN-UML K P Sharma Oli said on Saturday that a brief constitution is possible within the stipulated timeframe if the parties reach an understanding on the issue of integration of Maoist combatants and conflict management.

Speaking with the party cadres in Mahendranagar, Oli said that it is difficult to forge a consensus on all the issues and then draft the constitution within the timeframe. [break]

“We have very less time. All other problems can be resolved after drafting a brief constitution,” he said.

Criticizing Maoists´ stand that the constitution cannot be framed without a government headed by them, Oli said, “If the Maoists lead the government now, all the achievements made so far will also be lost.” He also accused the Maoists of not abiding by any peace agreements so far. “We cannot take the Maoists along unless a way out is designed for the country,” Oli said.

Oli advised the Maoists to capture state power through constitutional means instead of resorting to threats. Oli reached Mahendranagar from Dhangadi, where he had gone to attend a program.
