Nepal Boxing Association has organized the selection tournament targeting upcoming international tournaments.
"There are various international tournaments coming up and we are conducting the selection tournament to ensure a fair and transparent selection procedure," said Rajiv Shrestha, general-secretary of the association.
"The selected players will be sent to participate in upcoming international tournaments after the association picks tournaments and weight categories to participate in," added Shrestha.
In the selection tournament held in the boxing hall of the Dasharath Stadium, Shrestha defeated Kabindra Maharjan (APF) in the quarterfinal while Lama beat Devendra Malla. Similary, Nagarkoti defeated Hasta Bahadur Gharti of Dang while Darai outclassed Kailash Kumal from his district.
Likewise, Sudesh Manandhar (NPC) and Bikram Pariyar (APF) advanced into the men´s 52 kg semifinals.
In men´s 60 kg, Narendra RC of Nepal Youth Boxing Group, Suman Lama of NPC, Purna Bhadur Lama of APF and Mahesh Lama of NPC won their respective matches on Wednesday to book semifinal spots.
Umesh Rijal of Tikathali and Ratna Bahadur Tamang (NPC) reached the last four in men´s 64 kg, while Army´s Sudan Gurung and Boxing Group´s Rujan Tuladhar secured semifinal berths in men´s 69 kg.
Army´s Uddhav Khatri defeated Krishna Rana of Kaski in the quarterfinal of men´s 75 kg.
In women´s 48 kg, Deewana Sherma of NPC upset Nisha Ghimire of Makawanpur in the quarterfinal.
The selection tournament will conclude on Friday.
