The bomb that exploded at around 4:00 am has caused damage to different parts of the office building including its windows, said police inspector Mahendra Shrestha of the Area Police Office, Itahari. [break]
No human casualties have, however, occurred in the explosion.
Samyukta Limbuwan Morcha, an armed outfit operating in the eastern hilly districts, has owned up to the blast.
The outfit has carried out a series of bomb explosions in various eastern districts including Sunsari, Morang and Saptari over the last three months.
Only on Wednesday night, three persons had been injured in a similar blast that occurred at the house of Rameshwor Mehata in Babiya-3 of the district.
Police had claimed that the three injured --Mohammad Sahir Mansoori, 30, of Sripur-3, Narayan Mehata, 18, and Shyam Mehata, 20, of Babiya-3-- were members of an armed outfit operating in the eastern Terai region.
Police also had recovered a live socket bomb after launching a thorough search in the house. The bomb was later defused by a bomb disposal unit of Nepal Army.
