KATHMANDU, Feb 13: A bomb has been detonated at the Nepalgunj office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal (OHCHR-Nepal). [break]
OHCHR-Nepal spokesperson Marty Logan told myrepublica.com that it was a socket bomb thrown inside the UN compound. No one was hurt in the incident that took place at around 8:15 pm. Logan said it was a “big surprise” for them and police are already at the incident site.
All the staffs of OHCHR´s Nepalgunj office have gone to Bardiya for a retreat and no UN staff was inside at the time of the blast.
Police have found pamphlets of a group called "Bhishan Himali Bagh" at the site. Superintendent of Police Mingmar Lama said that the pamphlet has a seven-point demand that includes declaration of Nepal as a Hindu kingdom and withdrawal of the ordinances promulgated by the government recently.
It is still not clear who was behind the blast. Police said they are carrying out further investigations into the matter.
