“By not collecting wastes on rainy season, the whole city has been polluted,” Dr. Rajendra Kushwah, Narayani Sub-regional Hospital, Birgung said. “If this is not checked, it could result in typhoid, jaundice, viral fever and cholera.”[break]
The employees began the strike after the political representatives in the sub-metropolitan city´s board revoked contracts awarded on August 11 by the sub-metropolitan city for collecting parking fees and annual vehicular tax saying the bidding process was not transparent.
Employees allege that the political party representatives revoked the contract to serve their vested interest. Party representatives, on the other hand, say the sub-metropolis hid information and secretly gave the contract.
The strike will continue until the board revokes its decision to scrap the contract. We had given the contracts by following due process,” Kishor Singh, Chairman of Workers Union at the sub-metropolis, said.
