PARSA, Dec 14: Birgunj Metropolitan City has removed temporary shops operating in encroachment of BP Park near Ghantaghar Chowk.
The action targeted fruit, vegetable, and other stalls in the city center, as the city plans to organize the park more systematically, Mayor Rajeshman Singh said. He noted that the park had become disorganized due to the presence of temporary vendors, prompting their removal. “This morning, we used excavators to clear the unorganized market. The vendors themselves were helping remove their belongings,” Singh said.

Over 250 vendors, including those selling fruits, vegetables, clothes, and food, were operating in the area. The city plans to invest around Rs 70 million to develop a green and well-organized park. Alternative arrangements for the displaced vendors have been made at Railway Road in Chapkaiya.
The clearance operation was conducted under heavy deployment of municipal, Nepal Police, and Armed Police personnel from early morning.
